PULP – What will they do for an encore?

Image
Britpop, before the millennium, was the lifeblood of the British music industry. Through gritty lyrics and distorted guitar riffs, a n incalculable number of legends and icons were discovered in the 90 s, and i t's no wonder said icons like Liam Gallagher are still performing to the masses today, Gallagher selling out two nights in Knebworth Park just this past year (around 100,000 people). However, after Britpop slowly started to die out amongst the charts , and teen-pop bands like McFly and Busted started to dominate it, many incredible records were left in that era. During this period , in the mid 2000’s, some bands tried to distance themselves from being a ‘ Britpop band’, wanting to stay true to their own creativity rather than the trends. One of these bands, was Pulp.    Pulp were formed in Sheffield in 1978, when front - man Jarvis Cocker was only 15 . However, after many failed attempts at breaking the charts, a promising opportunity with DJ John Peel and...

As much as I am a music fanatic, festivals are not my thing - what can I say I like my own bed.  However, I think Leeds fest will always have a special place in my heart. I first went when I was 16, it was the furthest I’d been since coronavirus held us all hostage and it was a big deal for everyone there. For give or take a year we’d stayed in our homes following various changing rules and continuously being let down by any promises of normality. This festival was the first time I felt a sense of excitement in a long time, and I don’t think I was alone in that feeling. We went on the Sunday to see Post Malone, Beabadoobee, The Wombats and Two-Door-Cinema club. I obviously sang my heart out to all of them, having religiously listening to the set lists for months, and I left with no voice, no leg power, and the inside of my nose black. We went in a random dance stage mosh pit in which my friend lost a shoe and nearly a leg, and got home past 3 in the morning exhausted, so I like t...

Liam Gallagher - You only get to do it once

I've been an Oasis fan since I was small, not quite sure when it turned into more of an addiction. The Oasis ‘shrine’ that sits on my tall boy is filled with related books, Esty posters, and a framed screenshot of when Liam replied to my tweet one time - though I'm not quite sure what its praying for. So, when Liam Gallagher announced he was playing the Etihad on my 17 th birthday, it was basically my birth right to buy tickets. Yes, they left me with six pounds in my bank account, I had nobody planned to go with me and no idea how to get there, but that didn’t matter (plus, I was successful in my attempts at begging my m other to accompany me – it was my birthday! ).   Manchester's music scene must be one of, if not , the best in the U.K. Walking around a city with Oasis, The Smiths, Stone Rose 's etc. stickers , plastered on most brick walls – I felt at home. Everywhere you looked there was a middle-aged man in a bucket hat and a parka which I'm sur...
